The LUMSTORY brass LED low-voltage outdoor beacon light is a super premium quality and ultra good-looking low voltage outdoor lighting fixture. A 5 Watt MR 16 LED bulb (included) with a 3000 K warm white rating pushes light upward through the open half of the light cover and directly into the beacon fixture where it is gently refracted and diffused with the majority of the light now focused on a 90° angle toward the object or objects to be highlighted.Changing the bulb is a relatively easy task accomplished by loosening the five slotted screws holding the brass lid to the main body of the fixture to reveal the bulb. Unlike more traditional screw in bulbs, the MR 16 uses 2 pins connected to the bottom base of the fixture to connect. Once installed in the ground, a bulb change, if needed, can be relatively easily performed without the need to remove and reset the entire fixture.A 6 foot long 18 gauge wire then connects this fixture to either a new or pre-existing cable leading back to a suitably sized transformer (not included) used to convert 110 V household power to the 12 V needed for this, and any other related low-voltage lighting landscape fixtures installed. What makes this fixture unique and worthy of the premium price point? Let’s start with the IP 65 waterproof and -50°F-113°F operating temperature ratings that provide peace of mind this product has the build quality required to provide years of reliable service throughout the harsh realities of Canada’s 4 seasons climates. The gasket's sealed, and gently curved glass lens is heat resistant, an important characteristic for anyone planning to go full nuclear with this fixture and substitute a bulb with an output as high as 50 W (bulb not included) in lieu of the existing 5 Watt bulb. This simple $3 changeover will practically make this up lighting fixture suitable as a replacement for the famed uber-powered luminaire mounted at the top of the pyramid-shaped Luxor hotel in Las Vegas! The single most defining feature of this unique fixture would have to be the beautiful, yet functional brass beacon top adorning the top of the fixture. Although well lights, by design, are intended to be inground and therefore mostly invisible, placing this beautiful device out of sight almost seems a travesty! From a functional perspective, this brass topper will be a fierce protector of this fixture from every day outdoor perils such as lawn tractors passing over while mowing, kids playing, etc.The main body of the fixture is extra thick ABS approximately 4 inches in diameter and with ribbed side wall construction to encourage improved cooling interchange with surrounding environment materials. Other budget priced well lights known to this reviewer have a fixture diameter almost 50% smaller, and constructed of plastic thin enough to crinkle and collapse with normal human handling. This reviewer has had the pleasure of designing and building several low-voltage outdoor landscape lighting systems since the 1980s and has greatly enjoyed the incredible advances in the quality, variety, energy efficiency, and related benefits during this time. Installing low-voltage lighting is both easy and extremely gratifying as the rewards are extremely tangible and instantaneous. We use a regular 4 inch deep edger to push out shallow subcutaneous type trenches in the lawn turf, gently insert suitable gauge copper low-voltage cable, stomp the turf back in place and presto-ready to install the fixture. Unlike regular 110 V household power, low-voltage current is so negligible that we leave the transformer powered on during the install process to receive instant feedback that joints, connections, and fixtures are working properly. There is no danger of electrocution or shocking.Although we already greatly enjoy dozens of low-voltage lighting well lights here at the tree farm (pictures attached) similar in function and matching 5 Watt lighting output of the present item under review, none have a beacon top feature or can come anywhere near the Rolls-Royce build quality and regal bespoke appearance of these magnificent fixtures. We plan to use this light at the edge of an existing 40 foot diameter pond to gently and almost invisibly diffuse light across the water surface, re-powered with a higher wattage bulb suitable for the considerable lighting needs inherent to the lighting footprint to be covered. We want to deservingly showcase the fixture, rather than hiding it like all of the other mass market well lights already installed on the propertyConclusion: The LUMSTORY brass LED low-voltage outdoor beacon light is a super premium quality and ultra good-looking low voltage outdoor lighting fixture. An overall product score of 5/5 is assigned accordingly.
